With filming set to commence in just a few weeks it appears that Robert Rodriguez is pursuing some more big names to join Danny Trejo in the B-movie mash up sequel MACHETE KILLS. Deadline is reporting that Mel Gibson and Michelle Williams are being sought to join the sequel, which falls in line with the big-name casting of the first MACHETE, including Robert DeNiro, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Don Johnson, etc.
No word on who they may play, but I’d love to see Gibson in a villain role and any opportunity for Michelle Williams to be sexy and/or holding a gun/knife/grenade is cool, too. The first film didn’t really work for me, but I know there are those who loved it. Personally, I felt that it felt less like a B-movie and more like a bad 90’s action romp.
However, I do like Rodriguez (when he’s good) and always hope for the best. Seems he’s stacked his plate pretty high with MACHETE KILLS leading almost directly into filming on SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR. We know he likes to shoot fast and cheap, doing as much of the work himself as he possibly can, so perhaps this is just his style.
Either way, we’ll be seeing a lot more Rodriguez films coming down the pipe and thankfully they don’t involve SPY KIDS.
