Angelina Jolie begins filming Disney’s reimagining of Sleeping Beauty, MALEFICENT, in June. Jolie will be portraying the iconic evil queen and recently confirmed that at least one part of the traditional version of the character will remain.
“We’re still figuring out the look. We’re experimenting with different things. But the horns are the horns — you can’t deny them. You have to have horns.”
Jolie also goes on to say that the film will not be “anti-princess” but will broaden the story to show there was more to the characters than the animated film told.
With the glut of reimaginings lately, we are getting more sympathetic portrayals of villainous characters. The recent Snow White face-off shows a more comical evil queen (MIRROR MIRROR) versus a purely evil witch (SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN). What version will we get with MALEFICENT?
