80s nostalgia hounds, don’t get too angry now. Dimension’s upcoming SHORT CIRCUIT remake is alive and assembling as we speak, with the hiring of writer Matt Lieberman (DR. DOLITTLE: TAIL TO THE CHIEF) being the latest development.
Lieberman, an alumni of the Disney writers program and an uncredited scribe on a handful of recent live-action Disney films, joins HOP and ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS director Tim Hill in this re-imagining of the popular 80s film. Do you see now why Johnny 5 over here is looking pissed?
Story details are non-existent at the moment, like that really matters. Dimension and the Weinsteins are looking to turn SHORT CIRCUIT into a new family-friendly franchise, so expect the same tired old formula yet again. Blah.
SHORT CIRCUIT is scheduled to start shooting at the end of the year with a release sometime next summer.
