Adam Scott says a Party Down movie might be shooting this summer

I thoroughly enjoyed the two seasons and twenty episodes of Party Down when it aired on Starz, but I wasn’t in the camp that it needed particularly many more installments to tell its story about misfit caterers.

But some devotees of the show put it in the Arreseted Development/Firefly camp of “killed too soon shows” and mourned its passing the way they might a relative. Well fans of the show might be in luck, as Adam Scott says plans are moving forward to shoot a Party Down movie this summer with cast members like Lizzy Caplan, Martin Starr and Jane Lynch returning.

“We’re like 90% there, we’re hoping to do it maybe next summer, if everyone’s schedules work out and the guys get time to write a script. They have kind of a skeleton of a story worked out so we know where it’s going to go but we just have to kind of cross the t’s and dot the i’s, or something. But Starz are being super cool and they’re going to let us do it, and we’re all excited, we all want to do it.”

Again, I know this show has its hardcore fanbase, but if an Arrested Development movie is taking eons to get made, it would be impressive for Party Down to end up with its own feature. It does have less cast members to corral, but I also think that it won’t have a terribly large amount of name recognition to the general public. The reason it went off the air after all is that not that many people were watching it, and as such, I don’t think most people will have heard of it. It’s definitely a very funny show don’t get me wrong, but I will be very impressed if this movie does end up seeing the light of day.
