Hannibal Lecter: the TV series?

Although his early days were revealed (to limited interest) in the prequel HANNIBAL RISING, we haven’t seen the last of Dr. Hannibal “The Cannibal” Lecter in his pre-Hopkins/Cox incarnation.

French studio Gaumont is planning a drama series about the brilliant and demented carnivore from THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. The show is being written by Bryan Fuller, creator of whimsical and macabre series “Pushing Daisies” and “Dead Like Me”.

The hour-long show serves as a sort of prequel to MANHUNTER/RED DRAGON and “will explore the early relationship of Thomas Harris’ signature character, renowned psychiatrist Dr. Hannibal Lecter, and his patient, a young FBI criminal profiler named Will Graham, who is haunted by his ability to empathize with serial killers.”

The series is being produced by Gaumont International Television, an independent studio (with former NBC and Sony people in charge), so there’s no word yet on what channel will air the show or how gruesome it will be when the devious doctor sits down for a meal.
