Some of you have probably been wondering how THE BOURNE LEGACY can still be a Bourne movie without Matt Damon, the original Jason Bourne (or at least the recent owner of the codename).
One definition of “legacy” is: anything handed down from the past, as from an ancestor or predecessor. In this semi-sequel’s case, that legacy won’t just be the Bourne alias, but also previous BOURNE series actors Joan Allen and Albert Finney, who will be reprising their roles.
Allen will again play CIA agent Pam Landy, a foe-turned-ally of Damon’s Bourne, while Finney will play the nefarious doctor behind the brainwashing program. Other story details are scarce, but LEGACY will presumably take place some time after the events of the original trilogy.
Jeremy Renner is the Damon replacement, playing an operative from a covert government program similar to the Treadstone project that created Bourne. Ed Norton will play the new movie’s villain, Oscar Isaac (ROBIN HOOD, DRIVE) is another assassin from the project, and Rachel Weisz is the potential love interest.
Writer-director Tony Gilroy (MICHAEL CLAYTON) will deliver the globetrotting espionage thriller to theaters next Summer.
