Merry Christmas, Quentin Tarantino is giving you Django Unchained

JoBloJoBlo

While we’re still waiting to see who lands the title role in Quentin Tarantino’s spaghetti Western DJANGO UNCHAINED (c’mon, Idris Elba!), at least we know when we’ll get it.

According to Box Office Mojo, the movie is set for release on December 25, 2012.

Will this prove to be a better holiday match than when the Weinsteins released GRINDHOUSE on Easter weekend? At the very least, the end-of-year position will ensure the movie will be fresh in the mind of awards voters, although a summer release for INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS didn’t hurt Christoph Waltz’s chance at grabbing an Oscar.

Speaking of Waltz, he’s expected to visit QT’s pre-Civil War South as a German bounty hunter who frees a slave named Django, trains him in weapons and deception, and accompanies him on a violent quest to be reunited with his enslaved love. Leonardo DiCaprio will reportedly play the film’s villain, plantation owner Calvin Candie, with Samuel L. Jackson as his manipulative house servant.

Currently, December 2012 also brings THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY, THE LIFE OF PI, and THE LONE RANGER.
