HBO isn’t what it used to be.
Yes, Boardwalk Empire is pretty OK, and True Blood has been known to entertain, but in my estimation we’re a long ways from the era of The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, The Wire and Deadwood, as other pay channels like Showtime and Starz have given rise to better shows like Dexter and Spartacus.
I’m really hoping Game of Thrones can signal a comeback for the network. We haven’t seen a whole hell of a lot from the upcoming show other than a teaser trailer, and now at least there is a full length spot for the series (via Entertainment Weekly) which clues us in to what it’s all about.
It’s a genre surely most of us can appreciate, and I am looking forward to giving it a shot. With Sean Bean as the lead, it’s hard to avoid LOTR comparisons, but this would seem to be an entirely different animal. Check it out for yourself below.
