Die Hard and Predator director John McTiernan returns to action with Shrapnel

Director John McTiernan gave us a few true classics: PREDATOR, DIE HARD and THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER, not to mention DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE and THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR. But he hasn’t been seen much in the past decade — a bomb like ROLLERBALL and some serious legal problems can take you off the playing field for a while.

Now McTiernan is returning to what he knows best with an indie action-thriller called SHRAPNEL. The script from Evan Daugherty was on the 2008 “Blacklist” of the hot screenplays making the rounds in Hollywood that year.

The story follows two war veterans who hunt each other in a lethal game. Not much else is known about it, although in this interview, Daugherty compares it to movies like SOUTHERN COMFORT, DELIVERANCE, HELL IN THE PACIFIC and describes it as a “cabin in the woods political thriller”. Daugherty has since gone on to rewrite GRAYSKULL, the movie based on the He-Man cartoon and toy franchise.

This SHRAPNEL is unrelated to Radical Studio’s sci-fi graphic novel, which (ironically enough) LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD director Len Wiseman was adapting for the screen.
