Stephen Sommers returning to direct G.I. Joe sequel?

JoBloJoBlo

There was talk at one point last summer that director Stephen Sommers (VAN HELSING, THE MUMMY RETURNS) was kicked off G.I. JOE, reportedly having problems with the studio over the film. That was, however, quickly refuted by JOE producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura. But even still, in the time since, there’s been some doubt as to whether Sommers would return for the sequel.

But today, “an individual familiar with the project” has informed TheWrap that Sommers will indeed be returning for another go with Joe. And while we don’t know anything about the film’s story yet, we do know that ZOMBIELAND writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have turned in a draft that Paramount is happy with. As far as cast goes, only Channing Tatum (THE EAGLE, DEAR JOHN) is reportedly expected to reprise his role, though I suspect at least a few more will come along as development progresses.
