David O. Russell won’t make the Uncharted movie after all

JoBloJoBlo

When his name was first linked to an adaptation of the cinematic PS3 video game(s) UNCHARTED a few months ago, notorious director David O. Russell (THREE KINGS, I ♥ HUCKABEES) seemed like an odd choice.

And apparently the wrong one, as the LA Times says Russell and Sony have now parted ways after they were unable to “come to terms” (whether financially or creatively is unknown).

Now the studio and producers (including THE DARK KNIGHT’s Charles Roven) are on the hunt for a new director, and may potentially attach a male and female lead to retain some level of momentum.

But you won’t be seeing Fillion-esque fortune hunter Nathan Drake on screens next year, which the studio was hoping could be a possibility.

The first game found Drake and spunky reporter Elena following clues left by his distant relative Sir Francis Drake to find the legendary city of gold, El Dorado. This quest involves traveling through gorgeous but deadly environments and shooting lots of pirates, mercenaries and strange creatures.

The movie’s script comes from Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer (CONAN, COWBOYS & ALIENS).
