Ever heard of a Japanese book called ALL YOU NEED IS KILL?
Even if you haven’t, you’ll probably see an adaptation of it in the not-too-distant future, since Warner Bros. slapped down a fat stack of cash for the honor of bringing Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s tech-heavy tale to life.
The script comes from writer Dante Harper, who worked with the producers and rights-holders on making a finished draft rather than just taking the property around town and pitching it to various studios.
Warners paid seven figures for the spec, which much be in good shape to go — Deadline says the deal has “an aggressive progress to production clause that will likely get the film before the cameras within 12 months”.
The book blurb: There’s one thing worse than dying. It’s coming back to do it again and again…When the alien Gitai invade, Keiji Kiriya is just one of many raw recruits shoved into a suit of battle armor and sent out to kill. Keiji dies on the battlefield, only to find himself reborn each morning to fight and die again and again. Harper also adapted the graphic novel BLACK HOLE for David Fincher and co-wrote the remake of THE WILD GEESE.
