Will Smith sails away

JoBloJoBlo

I wasn’t a huge fan of I AM LEGEND but Will Smith and director Francis Lawrence’s first collaboration was such a financial success why not do it again, right? THE CITY THAT SAILED is a high concept fantastical drama being developed by Lawrence with Smith set to star. Written by Andrew Niccol, the story will follow Smith as a New York City street magician whose daughter just so happens to live in England. The girl eventually discovers some magic candles while exploring a lighthouse and wishes to be reunited with her father, which causes Manhattan to break away and drift across the Pond. The idea is definitely promising, but is this being positioned as a disaster film or an UP-style adventure film? The idea of all those hipsters, junkies, queens, socialites, fashionistas, poppers, hustlers, and my brother stranded on their beloved island in the middle of the ocean is enticing, but where’s the conflict? Can’t wait to find out.
