Sienna Miller had originally signed on to play Maid Marian alongside Russell Crowe back when the project was still NOTTINGHAM and Crowe would be playing some sort of Sheriff of Nottingham/Robin Hood hybrid. But now that the film has been retitled ROBIN HOOD and the movie will basically be GLADIATOR in Sherwood Forest, a new Maid Marian is needed. Sienna was kindly shown the door and director Ridley Scott began looking for his leading lady. Consider her found. Cate Blanchett has signed on to star as Marian in ROBIN HOOD adding a particular amount of gravitas to the otherwise stale proceedings (I’m sorry but unless shown otherwise, I just can’t get excited about Russell Crowe in a Robin Hood origin movie). Filming on the origin tale is set to begin this spring with a 2010 release planned. Am I alone so far in my indifference towards this movie? I love GLADIATOR as much as the next guy but man, I dunno…
