Many of us are still fuming over TDK’s exclusion from this year’s best picture race, but I think we can all agree that watching Heath’s family accept his well-deserved Oscar for best supporting actor last night was a moment many of us won’t soon forget. His bravura performance is just one of the many reasons that THE DARK KNIGHT has become only the fourth film to pass the 1 billion dollar mark worldwide.
Warner Bros. Pictures made the announcement Friday afternoon, saying that the combined domestic and international gross had totaled $1,001,082,160 to date — about $533 million domestically and $567 million overseas. The only other films to hit that mark are TITANIC, THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING and PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN’S CHEST. Hmm, I wonder if Nolan feels any pressure with the next film?
