If you pressed me to make a list of my favorite movies from the 1980s, I’d have to think that John Carpenter’s THEY LIVE would be very close to the top. It’s just genius on a lot of levels from the classic “I’ve come here to chew bubblegum” line to the equally classic extended fight scene (that was recreated shot-for-shot in this “South Park”). You knew with a movie this iconic it would eventually get the remake treatment and that day is here. Universal and Strike Entertainment have acquired the remake rights to the film though no writer or director are attached at this point. Universal and Strike are also working on a remake of John Carpenter’s THE THING. While you might be skeptical that a film of THEY LIVE’s status is being remade, remember that Universal and Strike previously remade another horror classic, DAWN OF THE DEAD, that turned out quite well and launched the career of Zack Snyder.
So all this begs the question, who could possibly fill the shoes of Rowdy Roddy Piper??
