That headline might be one of the most cryptic I’ve ever typed but I don’t know a better way to convey that Matthew McConaughey is set to star in a comedy called THE GRACKLE for New Line. I’m not exactly sure who or what a grackle is, but I’m guessing it’s the character’s last name. The film, which is described as a “raucous” R-rated comedy in the vein of WEDDING CRASHERS, will star McConaughey as a barroom fighter who hires himself out for clients who need to settle disputes but can’t afford lawyers. David O. Russell (THREE KINGS, I HEART HUCKABEES) will direct the film with McConaughey producing.
McConaughey gets a lot of heat but I think that’s primarily because of his choice in starring roles. FOOL’S GOLD? FAILURE TO LAUNCH? TWO FOR THE MONEY? THE WEDDING PLANNER? HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS? This is not the Wooderson I know and love. Hopefully after holding his own in TROPIC THUNDER and now with this R-rated comedy, he’ll making some more interesting choices with his career. Up next is THE GHOSTS OF GIRLFRIENDS PAST…so I guess we can throw that “interesting choices” thing out the window.
