Kristen Bell, Malin Akerman and Kristin Davis have signed on to co-star in the upcoming comedy COUPLES RETREAT for Universal. Based on a script by Jon Favreau, the comedy would star the ladies plus Favreau, Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman and Faizon Love as four couples sucked into couples therapy while on vacation. Bell is playing Bateman’s wife, Davis plays Favreau’s wife, and Akerman plays Vaughn’s with Love’s wife still yet to be cast. Peter Billingsley, Favreau’s longtime producing partner and, yes, Ralphie from CHRISTMAS STORY, will make his directorial debut with the film. COUPLES is Favreau’s first writing credit since 2002’s THE FIRST $20 MILLION, a comedy most people have completely forgotten about. Just on the pedigree of its cast alone, this is already one of the must-see comedies of 2009 (though I’d love to read the script to see if it actually lives up to the hype). Filming on COUPLES, which will take place in Bora Bora and Los Angeles, will begin later this year before Favreau begins work on IRON MAN 2.
