After filming the back-to-back Che Guevara biopics and the upcoming Matt Damon thriller THE INFORMANT, Steven Soderbergh will return to his low-budget indie roots with THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE. The film will follow a high-priced call girl who rents herself out to wealthy men looking for a woman to play the perfect girlfriend (hence the title). Soderbergh hatched the concept on the set of OCEAN’S THIRTEEN with writers Brian Koppelman and David Levien (ROUNDERS) who are now working on the script. Like the previous Soderbergh film BUBBLE the film will be shot with non-pro actors on a quick shoot. Word is that Soderbergh may cast a porn star in the lead, a role that would have been perfect for old school Jenna Jameson who truly had movie star looks. Now? Not so much. Soderbergh is scrambling to get his CHE movie ready for Cannes and afterwards will film THE INFORMANT for Warner Bros. GIRLFRIEND is expected to begin shooting this fall in just 14 days and will be distributed simultaneously in theaters, on TV and on DVD.
