As I was preparing some FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL stuff the other day, I was thinking about all the things Judd Apatow is producing and wondering when the guy would get back to directing. I can wonder no longer. Apatow has set up his next directorial effort at Universal and Sony (where all of his productions come from) and has set Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann to star. While I’ll always be pumped about a film written and directed by Apatow, I do worry that this new film will be more of an Adam Sandler film than a Judd Apatow film. The past two of Apatow’s films worked, in part, because of the underdog nature of their star (although both Steve Carell and Seth Rogen have become huge stars since that time). As of now, Apatow is keeping the plot of the comedy under wraps. Apatow and Sandler recently teamed up for the script to the upcoming Sony comedy YOU DON’T MESS WITH THE ZOHAN. Sandler is currently filming Disney’s BEDTIME STORIES while Rogen recently wrapped Kevin Smith’s ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO. As for his producing efforts, Apatow has SARAH MARSHALL, DRILLBIT TAYLOR and PINEAPPLE EXPRESS all due later this year.
Apatow’s next is…?!
