Sam Mendes has signed on to direct an upcoming comedy from Dave Eggers with John Krasinski (“The Office”) and Maya Rudolph (“Saturday Night Live”) attached to star. The project would be Mendes’ first foray into comedy after directing dramas like AMERICAN BEAUTY and ROAD TO PERDITION. Eggers co-wrote his first original script with his wife Vendela Vida and it follows a newlywed couple traveling the US looking for the perfect place to raise their baby. Mendes recently wrapping filming on REVOLUTIONARY ROAD with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet starring. The Eggers comedy was originally titled THIS MUST BE THE PLACE but is now operating sans title. Eggers previously co-wrote WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE with Spike Jonze and is also working on a screenplay based on his novel “What Is The What.” Filming on the Mendes comedy is expected to begin in March for Focus Features. Krasinski can be seen next in the George Clooney comedy LEATHERHEADS while Rudolph had taken time off acting to raise her first child with husband Paul Thomas Anderson.
