The Other (Wo)men

NOTES ON A SCANDAL is easily one of my favourite films of the last two years. It was a ferocious and quickly-paced drama, and until today, I didn’t bother to check out who directed it, which is uncharacteristic of me. But now I know, because it looks like Richard Eyre (that’s his name) is planning his next film, called THE OTHER MAN. And after working with the likes of Cate Blanchett, Judi Dench, and Bill Nighy, he’s procured himself another top-line cast. Liam Neeson, Laura Linney, and Antonio Banderas, have all signed to star in this movie about a widower who starts a correspondence with the man who was having an affair with his late wife.

Eyre has adapted his script from a short story written by Bernard Schlink from the anthology FLIGHTS OF LOVE. I’m not sure what the two men’s correspondence will lead to—some are saying revenge, others are saying comfort. Looks like we’ll just have to see when this dramatic powerhouse eventually hits theatres.
