There was a time when Fred Durst was supposed to direct the 70’s skateboard flick LORDS OF DOGTOWN. Catherine Hardwicke (THIRTEEN) ended up behind the camera for that one, and it was pretty good, but I can only imagine that if Durst was behind the camera there would have been an extra element of grit and grime that was lacking from the final product. Say what you will about the man, but he almost singlehandedly started a riot at Woodstock. Pretty badass if you ask me.
Now that Limp Bizkit is all but dunzo, Durst is trying to reinvent himself as a filmmaker. He has THE EDUCATION OF CHARLIE BANKS out later this year, starring Jesse Eisnberg (THE SQUID AND THE WHALE) and now Variety is reporting that Durst’s next one will be something called COMEBACK. Joining him on the project will be Ice Cube, another rapper-turned-movie-guy who will be taking on a starring and producing role. But did you ever think a movie with these two hardcore mofos involved would be an ‘inspirational sports drama’?
The movie will star Cube as a former high school football star who trains his 11-year-old niece to be the first female QB to play in the Pop Warner tourney. This is of course based on a true story, as most ‘inspirational sports dramas’ are. Shooting is set to start on November 26th.
