Kidman gets erotic?

JoBloJoBlo

If I’m watching a trailer and the Movie Trailer Voice Guy comes on and says “From the people who brought you THE HOURS, COLD MOUNTAIN and THE ENGLISH PATIENT,” I’d probably go running from the theater. No offense to directors Stephen Daldry and Anthony Minghella but those just weren’t my kinds of movies. But sure enough we’ll have a movie with that pedigree coming soon. Nicole Kidman and Ralph Fiennes have signed on to star in THE READER, which will be directed by Daldry and produced by Minghella. The film, based on the novel by Bernhard Schlink, will follow the “erotic awakening” of a young man who falls in love with an older woman in post-WWII Germany. Kidman would play the woman while Fiennes would play a later day version of the young man. Now I’m all behind movies that feature “erotic awakenings” (EMMANUELLE IN SPACE?) but this sounds like I might need a literal awakening after the movie is over. All things considered though, Kidman has tried both dark comedy (STEPFORD WIVES), regular comedy (BEWITCHED) and thrillers (INVASION) and those didn’t exactly work out so maybe a return to what she does best is good for the ole girl. Kidman can be seen later this fall in MARGOT AT THE WEDDING and this holiday season in THE GOLDEN COMPASS.
