Recently crowned cinematic Pirate King Keira Knightley continues her love affair with period pieces by signing on to the drama THE DUCHESS, a biopic of 18th century aristocrat Georgiana, duchess of Devonshire. Based on the Amanda Foreman novel of the same name and under director Saul Dibb, the film follows the “extravagant, profligate and promiscuous” life of the famed aristocrat. A woman who was “alternately feted and reviled, and widely caricatured by the popular press”, she was essentially the Paris Hilton of her time. But it seems our favorite recovering convict is too busy singing opera to bother playing the 18th century incarnation of herself. Knightley can next be seen in the period drama ATONEMENT, the period drama SILK and the period biopic THE EDGE OF LOVE.
