Gael Garcia Bernal, Danny Glover and uber-hottie Alice Braga (right) have signed on to co-star in the upcoming suspense flick BLINDNESS for Focus Features. The film, based on the novel by Jose Saramago, takes place in the future where a blindness epidemic is sweeping the nation and one woman (Julianne Moore) is left unafflicted. Mark Ruffalo will play her doctor while Bernal and Braga have character titles like “King of Ward 3” and “Girl With the Dark Glasses.” Glover will play the more traditional narrator. Braga, niece of Sonia Braga, has a starring role in this December’s I AM LEGEND alongside Will Smith while Bernal just premiered his directorial debut DEFICIT at the Cannes Film Festival. Production on BLINDNESS, directed by Fernando Meirelles (THE CONSTANT GARDENER) is expected to begin this July in Braga’s hometown of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
