Thundercats hooo no!

JoBloJoBlo

As much of an inappropriate crush I had on Cheetara, I can’t say I’m all that excited about the prospects of this THUNDERCATS movie they’ve announced today. Apparently Warner Bros., sniffing the stink of success that’s wafting off fellow 80s cartoon adaptation TRANSFORMERS, has optioned a THUNDERCATS script by Paul Sopocy and are planning a big-budget, live-action film. I’m hoping this is just WB snapping up all the cartoons I’ve ever watched as a child (they’re also the ones behind HE-MAN) and nothing more. Don’t get me wrong – I love me some Thundercats, but I can’t say I think it’s gonna make a good movie. I mean, really, this was a movie about man/cat hybrids. A movie about giant robots is inherently going to be cool. Man-cats? Not so much. I just don’t know how you adapt the Valley of the Snarfs into something live-action without being completely ridiculous. Of course, I could be proved wrong and THUNDERCATS could be the next LORD OF THE RINGS. But my gut instinct tells me that the WB should just let this one go.
