Excl: Gangster posters!

AMERICAN GANGSTER was a project that almost never happened. Antoine Fuqua was scheduled to direct Denzel Washington and
Benicio Del Toro in the film (originally titled THE RETURN OF SUPERFLY) when creative differences shut production down. Universal pulled the plug on the film and was ready to settle deals with both actors who had pay-to-play deals. But producer Brian Grazer knew a good thing when he saw it and wasn’t about to let GANGSTER die. Eventually the project was reborn with Ridley Scott directing and Russell Crowe stepping in for Del Toro. The film, which takes place in the 1970s, follows a former drug kingpin who shifts sides and works with New York City detective to help stop the flow of heroin into the US. Today at JoBlo.com we’re excited to debut for you the teaser one-sheets for AMERICAN GANGSTER (one Denzel, one Russell), which is scheduled for release this November. I very much like the dark, ominous feel of this art.
