A quartet of young British actors have signed on to star in HIPPIE HIPPIE SHAKE, a film not about the Beatles song but instead a bunch of damn, dirty hippies. Cillian Murphy, Sienna Miller, Max Minghella and Emma Booth will star in the film based on the overly-titled memoir “Hippie Hippie Shake: The Dreams, the Trips, the Trials, the Love-ins, the Screw Ups: The Sixties” by Richard Neville. The film will take place in the swinging 60s of London when Neville and pals were shagging like mad, getting whacked out on drugs and fighting obscenity laws with the British government (the book took place in Australia but will be transplated to the UK for the movie). So like AUSTIN POWERS but I guess in a more serious way. Beeban Kidron (BRIDGET JONES: THE EDGE OF REASON) will direct the project for Universal and London-based Working Title Films. Please though can someone come up with a better title than HIPPIE HIPPIE SHAKE? That’s just awful. Miller can be seen this summer in STARDUST while Murphy will NOT be seen in 28 WEEKS LATER (despite what commercials are showing you).
