In yet another deal where movie rights to a book were a year in advance of its publication, Fox has optioned Tom Rob Smith’s upcoming thriller CHILD 44 for director Ridley Scott. Despite the book not being released until 2008, there were already a number of bidders looking to snatch up the project. The forthcoming book follows a Russian police officer on the run after being framed for treason. While on the lam he stumbles upon a series of child killings and risks his own capture to solve them. Scott recently wrapped AMERICAN GANGSTER with Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe and is currently prepping PENETRATION, a soft-core porn flick for Cinemax. Oh wait, PENETRATION is actually an adaptation of the book “Body of Lies” with Leonardo DiCaprio starring. Speaking of numerically named children, whatever happened to Warner Bros.’ planned live-action remake of AKIRA?
