Mostow’s Surrogate

JoBloJoBlo

Director Jonathan Mostow and his TERMINATOR 3 writers Michael Ferris and John Brancato will reteam to develop the graphic novel THE SURROGATES into a big-screen thriller for Disney. The book, written by Robert Venditti and illustrated by Brett Weldele, follows a futuristic society where people have surrogates, androids that humans can link with and control from an isolated location. When someone starts offing surrogates the police begin to investigate a fanatical cult that wants to return society to a time when humans lived their lives instead of just experiencing them. 300 is only a success about five days old by now and already execs are pointing to it as a reason to develop their own films (“it’s clear from 300 that people want to see different kinds of things”). Oddly enough, producing the film will be Elizabeth Banks, an actress you might remember as the super horny girl in 40-YEAR-OLD VIRGIN, Marky Mark’s girlfriend in INVINCIBLE or Betty Brant in the SPIDER-MAN films. Mostow’s work on SURROGATES will not distract him from his work on Universal’s SUB-MARINER film, which is still in active development.
