New trailer for Nicole Kidman film Destroyer highlights the critical praise

The 1988 prison-set slasher DESTROYER will always be the #1 movie with that title in my book, but the upcoming Nicole Kidman crime thriller DESTROYER does look very promising, and the critics who have gotten a chance to see the movie already have had high praise for it. The newly released UK trailer for the film shares positive quotes from several sources, including our own Chris Bumbray's 10/10 review, in which he called this DESTROYER "a new classic".

Directed by Karyn Kusama from a screenplay by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, the film has the following synopsis:

The moral and existential odyssey of LAPD detective Erin Bell who, as a young cop, was placed undercover with a gang in the California desert with tragic results. When the leader of that gang re-emerges many years later, she must work her way back through the remaining members and into her own history with them to finally reckon with the demons that destroyed her past.

Kidman's co-stars include Sebastian Stan, Toby Kebbell, Tatiana Maslany, Bradley Whitford, Jade Pettyjohn, and Scoot McNairy.

DESTROYER will reach theatres in New York and Los Angeles on December 25th and will expand from there. The UK release is scheduled for January 25th.

Judging by this trailer, Kusama's DESTROYER is going to be an Oscar contender. I'm looking forward to checking it out, and maybe someday I'll have a copy sitting on a shelf in my movie collection right next to that '88 slasher it shares a title with.
