True Detective season 3 adds Sarah Gadon and Emily Nelson

Sarah Gadon

Telling the story of a mystery that spans decades, the third season of HBO's crime anthology series True Detective will probably require a good-sized cast. So far, the cast includes Mahershala Ali, Carmen Ejogo, Stephen Dorff, Scoot McNairy, Mamie Gummer, Ray Fisher, Rhys Wakefield, Michael Greyeyes, and Jon Tenney. Now you can add two more names to that list.

The latest actors to sign on to appear on the show are Sarah Gadon and Emily Nelson. The only details revealed about their characters are their names: Elisa Montgomery and Margaret. Names that don't mean anything to us at this point.

Written by series creator Nic Pizzolatto (with Deadwood's David Milch earning a co-writing credit on one episode), True Detective season 3 is about

a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.

MURDER PARTY / BLUE RUIN / GREEN ROOM director Jeremy Saulnier will be sharing the directing duties on the season with Pizzolatto, who will be making his directorial debut.

Gadon has done a lot of genre work, including DREAM HOUSE, DRACULA UNTOLD, THE 9TH LIFE OF LOUIS DRAX, and the Stephen King series 11.22.63.

Nelson I'm less familiar with, but she was recently on 11 episodes of the CBS series Code Black.

True Detective is executive produced by Scott Stephens, Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Cary Joji Fukunaga, Steve Golin, Bard Dorros, Richard Brown, Saulnier, and Pizzolato (who is also the showrunner). The new season is expected to reach HBO airwaves in 2019.
