Acquisition news out AFM continues fast and furiously…
We have just learned that Grindstone has just scooped North American rights to SAWNEY: FLESH OF MAN, a Scottish cannibal picture set in the 15th century. First timer Ricky Wood directed the flick, David Hayman plays the title role of Sawney Bean.
The film is based on the 15th-century Scottish clan chieftain Sawney Bean, head of an inbred clan of 48 members who, legend has it, murdered and ate more than 1,000 people. The story has been cited as an inspiration for Wes Craven’s horror classic The Hills Have Eyes (1977).

Up next is Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson’s RESOLUTION, a drug thriller with a supernatural bent. Raven Banner and Media 108 just snagged international rights to flick, outside of America. Tribeca Film plans an early 2013 theatrical release day-and-date with on-demand platforms, including iTunes, Amazon Watch Instantly, VUDU and Xbox.
Story finds two friends, one a junkie forced to go cold turkey in an isolated cabin. But what begins as an attempt to save his friend’s life quickly takes an unexpected turn.
Last but not least is SCORCHED EARTH, a post-apocalyptic thriller from director Brad Turner. The flick stars Sean Bean, and has just been nabbed by Entertainment One for multi-territory distribution, U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Australia and Scandinavia among them. VMI Worldwide handled the sale.
The sci-fi thriller is set in a ruined future wasteland, after earth has suffered an environmental collapse killing billions. What remains is a rudimentary society with small outposts of civilisation and a vast, lawless wasteland. Bean plays Atticus Gage, a ruthless bounty hunter who is offered the bounty of a lifetime if he heads out into the badlands to track down the world’s most wanted criminal.
