From Charlie Bucket to Norman Bates? Quite the leap…

Word has dropped that A&E has settled upon British youngster Freddy Highmore (seen right) to portray the troubled Norman Bates in new series “Bates Motel.” Vera Farmiga (gorgeous below) will play his mother, the show is gearing up for production to meet its 2013 debut.

“Bates Motel” will give viewers an intimate understanding of how Norman Bates’ psyche developed from his childhood through his teen years. Fans will have access to the dark, twisted back-story and learn firsthand how his mother, Norma, and her lover damaged Norman, helping forge the most well-known serial killing motel owner in history.

So what’s up, you like the key casting? That smirk up top there is pretty psychotic, but Norman Bates? Tough sell…to me anyway. What says you?
