Still here? Good! So over this past weekend at the Visual Effects Society Production Summit in Beverly Hills, some details emerged about an alternate ending to RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. This one adding to the bleakness of it all, and at the last second a decision was made to change the end, which is the one you saw. So what did they have planned originally?

Fox’s president of postproduction Ted Gagliano stated that – “For example, we thought James Franco’s character should die (in Apes), so we are going to sell (the alternative clip) down the road.”

Say what? Die? Yes indeed, Franco’s character was set to die during the bridge battle, getting shot to death. Not sure I would have liked that, in a way I am glad they made the change as I was pretty satisfied with the ending and film over all. However reshooting the ending did come at a cost, and you got wonder why they decided on the change so late. As stated the original ending will be on the DVD and Blu-ray release.

During experiments to find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, a genetically-enhanced chimpanzee uses its greater intelligence to lead other apes to freedom.

You can pre-order the DVD right HERE, and the Blu-ray HERE.
