Happy start of the week folks, did you head to the theaters this past weekend?
Well it seems quite a few people flocked out to see Steven Soderbergh’s latest CONTAGION, as the film reached number 1 (finally dethroning THE HELP). The film which cost around $60 million, made back just over a third of that. It will likely make its budget back, and it actually made more than THE HELP on its first weekend run.
Lionsgate’s big release for the weekend was WARRIOR, one that our very own Arrow gave high praise for (his review HERE). Unfortunately the film didn’t bring in too much even though it took 3rd spot. It made back a fifth of its budget, here’s hoping that the film perhaps finds more of an audience this week.
Genre releases from last week SHARK NIGHT 3D and APOLLO 18 remained in the Top 10, however both films saw a huge drop with 58% and 66% respectively. DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK got knocked out of the Top 10, coming in at 11th with $2.2 million.
Next week sees the releases of the STRAW DOGS remake starring James Marsden and Kate Bosworth, as well as the highly anticipated DRIVE from Nicolas Winding Refn. Will either of these films knock CONTAGION off the top spot? Will they even rank in the Top 10? Only time will tell …
