“Tales From The Crypt” headed back to the small-screen? You don’t say…
Deadline has learned that, 15 years after the beloved HBO horror series ended its seven year run, a show based on the 1950 EC Comics is currently in development. According to co-producer Andy Cosby (EUREKA), the show “will be an ongoing series that uses characters from the comic books in a more modern context.” Word is the newfangled adaptation, at 60 minutes a clip, will have zero to do with the HBO series. In fact, it strangely won’t even be anthological.
“It’s all about continually elevating the genre, for both existing fans of the source material and mainstream audiences.”
Man I love the original “Tales From The Crypt.” So many great, weird episodes…so much talent in front of and behind the camera. Shit, just that opening sequence alone, with the ominous music and that sick tracking shot through the corridors of the Crypt Keeper’s decrepit mansion gets me all nostalgic. I miss that shite.
No word on which network the new “Tales” will reside on, but with genre series proving quite successful these days (“The Walking Dead,” “True Blood,” “Dexter”), I can’t see lack of interest being the case. Original “Tales” producer Gil Adler will reprise his duties.
Alright, let’s hear it. You in favor of a “Tales” return or does the new show sound way too foreign to the original to drum up interest? If it’s not an anthology show, what the hell is it worth even calling it “Tales From The Crypt”? I get they want to base it more on the comics, but damn, let’s not forget why we loved the original in the first place!
