Given the massive success of FAST FIVE (a franchise, I know), it’ll be interesting to see how the masses take to Nicolas Winding Refn’s DRIVE, which stars Ryan Gosling and comes out September 16th. Perhaps even more interesting is the collaboration the actor and director will follow up with; a lofty remake of the 1976 film LOGAN’S RUN. Well, the pair recently touched on the subject with 24 Frames. Peep it…
” ‘Logan’s Run’ is dated in the sense that everything came true,” Refn told 24 Frames. “They’ve been trying to make it for years with the notion of just trying to remake the original movie. And it has to be rethought.”
Refn continued:
“The premise of a society that decides to commit suicide is unique, and I think that’s why everyone still thinks it could work…We’re still in the stage of trying to figure out the rules of the road.”
Added Gosling:
“Joel [Silver] said the other night, ‘Take your time and make it good. It doesn’t have to be ready at any point.’ We’ll put together a team of futurists and artists and we’ll dream on this world.”
So there you have it. Although ideas are percolating, there’s no definitive start date for the LOGAN’S RUN remake. Still, it looks like we may have a long-lasting actor-director partnership, a la Depp and Burton. DiCaprio and Scorsese. I’m always down with that.
