Dylan McDermott cast as the male lead in FX’s “American Horror Story”

After a hardy search to find their male lead, “Glee” creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have given Dylan McDermott the role in the pilot episode of FX’s “American Horror Story.” He joins Connie Britton, Jessica Lange (below) and Denis O’Hare, among yet to be announced others.

Only time will tell if the shroud of secrecy surrounding the TV series will prove to be a pleasant, genre-based surprise, but here’s what we do know about the show at this point:

It revolves around husband and wife Ben (McDermott) and Vivien Harmon (Friday Night Lights’ Connie Britton), who move into a creepy San Francisco home next door to Constance (Lange) and her daughter with Down Syndrome who knows more about the house than everyone realizes. O’Hare will play a dude named “Larry The Burn Guy,” former resident of the creepy S.F. home.

Word is “American Horror Story” will go into production as soon as Murphy and Falchuk wrap this season of “Glee.” Murphy, who exec-produces with Falchuk, is also writing the pilot episode.

So what’s up…you like the casting of “American Horror Story” so far? I for one hope two-time Oscar winner Jessica Lange gets a juicy recurring role. Word is her part is being beefed up now that she’s cast, so maybe she’ll steal the show.
