I don’t think we wrote about this last week, as it really wasn’t worth covering, but it seems Kevin Smith’s RED STATE has already turned a profit. Not bad considering the film still has six months or so before actually being released in theaters. Granted, the it was only made for about $4 million, but it seems the oddly controversial four-walling method of exhibition has paid off so far.
Anyway, a pair of new one-sheets for the film have been unrolled, the first being vastly different from ones we’ve seen prior. In it, check out the world flipped upside down, as to indicate how ass-backwards Reverend Abin Cooper (Michael Parks) and his vitriolic rants truly are. Simple yet somehow off-putting, I quite like the new poster, even if it is fan-made. Do you?
The second poster keeps with the type we’ve gotten used to, a character in profile over a grainy background. This time it’s Esther we meet, who is played in the film by Smith’s wifey, Jennifer Schwalbach.
Red State begins by following three horny high-school boys who come across an online ad from an older woman looking for a gang bang. Boys being boys, they hit the road to satisfy their libidinal urges. But what begins as a fantasy takes a dark turn as they come face-to-face with a terrifying “holy” force with a fatal agenda.
John Goodman, Kevin Pollak, Kaylee DeFer (below), Melissa Leo, Stephen Root, Ralph Garman, Kerry Bishé, Michael Angarano, Kyle Gallner, Nicholas Braun, James Jean Parks and Haley Ramm also star in the picture.
RED STATE hits theaters October 19th.
