Anyone else ready to bash their damn computer monitor over yet another HUNGER GAMES casting announcement? Goddamn!

Earlier today, we heard Paula Malcomson had been tapped to play Katniss Everdeen’s mother in Gary Ross’ adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ novel, and now it seems yet another name is set to join the production. Question is, can even John C. Reilly bring some crossover appeal to a movie no doubt preying on the TWLIGHT crowd?

According to Vulture, C. Reilly is set to play Haymitch Abernathy in THE HUNGER GAMES, a drunk who just also happens to be the only person from District 12—where Katniss Everdeen hails from—to have won at the Hunger Games. However, the mental and physical toll turned him to alcohol, but asked by Katniss and Peeta for help, he agrees to sober up and mentor them.

John C. Reilly as a drunk certainly sounds fun to watch, but I still don’t know about this HUNGER GAMES project. Let’s just consider some of the character names in the film. There’s Katniss of course, Peeta, Gale, Effie, Rue, Glimmer and Thresh. And now Haymitch? What is this, a Sarah Palin nursery?

Due March 23, 2012THE HUNGER GAMES is set in the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. Each year, the districts are forced by the Capitol to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the Hunger Games, a brutal and terrifying fight to the death – televised for all of Panem to see.
