It was during the holiday season of 2010 that we last had an update for Edgar Wright’s ANT-MAN, however the news that Alan Tudyk may have replaced Nathan Fillion as the titular lead turned out to be mere rumor (in fact, Fillion isn’t even involved). Hopefully this new update holds a little tighter!

Speaking with The Playlist, Wright (SHAUN OF THE DEAD, HOT FUZZ, SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD) and his pal Joe Cornish confessed the screenplay for ANT-MAN is somewhat nearing completion. Not that it’ll end up being Wright’s next directorial effort, but at least he’s taking steps (or a flight, rather) to put the legs in motion. Check it…

“We’re currently working on it, not right now. But the day after tomorrow we’ll go to Los Angeles.”

Wright continued with:

“We kind of have a stock response now, it’s true to say we’ve been writing it in some form. Weirdly, the treatment for Ant-Man exists before Marvel Studios. There was a treatment that Joe and I did when Artisan had the kind of lower-rung Marvel properties and we wrote a treatment for it that exists before Hot Fuzz. Basically, when I met Kevin Feige I said, ‘Oh, did you ever get our Ant-Man treatment?’ and he had never read it so we submitted it properly like four years later. So it’s something me and Joe have genuinely been working on for nearly a decade and at some point we’ll finish the script.”

And there it is, an imminent trip to Tinsel Town to further hash out the script. And with a decade invested in the project, let’s hope Wright decides to direct it himself sooner than later. Know what I mean…

ANT MAN follows Biochemist Henry Pym, who discovers an unusual set of subatomic particles he labels “Pym particles”, creates a size-altering formula and tests it on himself. Reduced to the size of an insect, Pym has a dangerous encounter with ants in a nearby anthill. Shortly afterward, he constructs a cybernetic helmet that allows him to communicate with and control ants. Pym designs a costume and reinvents himself as the superhero Ant-Man, and defeats several KGB agents attempting to steal the formula for an anti-radiation gas.

SCOTT PILGRIM star Anna Kendrick!
