As you all know by now, the former Governator is looking for work. 63-year-old Arnold Schwarzenneger is now done with his political career and ready to jump back onto the silver screen, and there are apparently plenty of opportunities for him to do so. TheArnoldFans has a report from “The Arnold Classic” – a bodybuilding expo that Schwarzenegger sponsors – that gives us an idea of what Arnold is mulling over currently.
“Well, first of all it’s more 15 films, obvious ones from The Terminator to remakes of Predator and The Running Man and all of those things. Then also a lot of original stuff too. But I am also packaging a Comic Book character right now. I’m going to announce that sometime by the end of March or the beginning of April.”
Arnie has also stated that he’s considered the long-gestating WITH WINGS AS EAGLES for his comeback role.
Here’s where I’m a bit skeptical about the PREDATOR/RUNNING MAN aspect of this quote: why would you remake those movies with Arnold? Doesn’t it make more sense – if Arnold is indeed going to be involved with those titles – to do sequels? A remake of PREDATOR with Arnold just seems redundant. (Although perhaps he was misquoted or spoke incorrectly – in which case I’m totally down with Schwarzenegger reprising either of those roles.)
I personally think Arnold should do something along the lines of what Clint Eastwood did with GRAN TORINO, a playful but knowing spin on his persona that doesn’t ask him to do too much, while still allowing him to be a badass… That, or just make him the bad guy in THE EXPENDABLES 2.
