From one zombie yarn to another…
Nicholas Hoult (seen right), the fast-rising English thespian in such works as A SINGLE MAN, X-MEN: FIRST CLASS and JACK THE GIANT KILLER, is now rubbing up against WARM BODIES, a new zombie outing from Summit Entertainment.
Word is Jonathan Levine (THE WACKNESS, ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE) will direct, adapting Isaac Marion’s book of the same name to the big-screen. The film is being dubbed a cross between TWILIGHT and SHAUN OF THE DEAD, if that at all computes…
Here’s the WARM BODIES premise:
An existentially-tormented zombie named R begins an unlikely friendship with the human girlfriend of one of his victims. The blossoming relationship starts a chain reaction that will transform him, his fellow zombies and maybe the whole lifeless world.
I’m not sure how to feel about that plot-crunch, do you? On one hand I kind of dig the whole “zombies assimilated into society” trend we’ve seen recently, but there’s something nostalgically appealing about zombies who have nothing on their undead minds other than consuming as much human flesh as possible. So call me conflicted.
As for Hoult, dude’s been acting since the age of 7. He’s approaching an aggregate of 30 big and small screen credits, including the oft-delayed MAD MAX: FURY ROAD for director George Miller. Not to shabby indeed!
But let’s hear it from you. Diggin’ the sound of WARM BODIES in general? How about with Hoult and Levine involved? Does that TWILIGHT comparison turn you off?
