Well what do you expect from the guy who made SNAKES ON A PLANE?!?
You guys know about David R. Ellis’ upcomingkiller shark flick, right? You know, the one previously called SHARK NIGHT 3D. Yeah, you know…the one now referred to as UNTITLED 3D SHARK THRILLER. Well, when the film finally takes a bit out of theaters, it could be called just that…UNTITLED 3D SHARK THRILLER. We’re not joking…
Nope. According to Ellis himself (via Vulture), it’s been a tough task trying to come up with an apt title for their high concept project. Peep it…
“I hated the original title [Shark Night 3D], too…so at our weekly production meetings, I made everyone on the crew come up with names — Chums, Fins, Terror on the Lake — but they all seemed kind of cheesy. And so until I hear a better name, I like what we’ve got right now: Untitled 3D Shark Thriller. The title says everything you need to know: ‘We’ve got sharks.’ ‘It’s in 3D.’ and, ‘It’s a thriller.’”
Wow, talk about lowest common denominator.
But I tend to agree with Roger Corman on the matter, who says even though UNTITLED 3D SHARK THRILLER may be “too hip for the room,” there’s a thirst for that kind of high-concept kitsch these days. Corman knows what the hell he’s talking about, at 84 the dude’s spitting titles like DINOCROC and DINOSHARK…and his SHARKTOPUS (which he did not title himself) got the highest ratings of any original movie premiering on the SyFy Channel.
But what says you? Should Ellis and Relativity Media release the film as UNTITLED 3D SHARK THRILLER or is it just another gimmick from a hack director trying to recapture fallen glory?
