Perhaps seeing how formidable AMC’s “The Walking Dead” proved itself to be last fall, ABC is now looking to get into the televisual genre game. Think they’ll stack up?!?
Deadline reports orders for pilots have been made by ABC on three different TV programs (out of six) that can be considered worthy of coverage here at AITH. Care to hear which?
The most appropriate would be DreamWorks’ “The River”, which we first wrote about last September. The series was conceived and originally written by Oren Peli and Michael Perry (PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 1 & 2), but the pilot has since undergone a page one rewrite by “Heroes” scribe Michael Green. The show will be a cinema verite style thriller set on the Amazon river (above). Word is it will be cut from the same cloth of P.A., focusing on a family traveling deep in the Amazon to try to find their missing father.
Also on ABC’s docket is a series called “Once Upon A Time”, which comes from “Lost” writers Edwards Kitsis and Adam Horowitz (who also wrote TRON: LEGACY and the upcoming OUIJA project for Platinum Dunes). The show will focus on a woman with a troubled past who is drawn into a small town in Maine where the magic and mystery of Fairy Tales just may be real.
Lastly, ABC has ordered the pilot episode of “Revenge”, a small screen adaptation of Alexandre Dumas, pere’s THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO. We also wrote about this project once before, back in December. As we knew then, Temple Hill (TWLIGHT) is producing the material with a female bent, chronicling the story of a young woman who comes to the Hamptons to exact revenge on the people who destroyed her family. Mike Kelly (“Swingtown”) wrote the pilot.
So there it is gang, “The River”, “Once Upon A Time”, and “Revenge.” Which, if any, will you be attuned to come pilot season?
