Ridley Scott’s Prometheus already changes dates; moves to summer 2012

A few weeks ago, we were hit with the game-changing announcement that Ridley Scott and Damon Lindelof had eschewed the ALIEN prequel they were working on for an altogether different sci-fi project (that still has “strands of Alien’s DNA”) called PROMETHEUS. The film already had Noomi Repace on board, as well as a MARCH 9, 2012 release date.

Just last week, however, Disney placed their mega-epic JOHN CARTER OF MARS in the same slot, moved up from its original JUNE 8th date. Fox, correctly figuring that the date wasn’t big enough for two high-profile sci-fi movies, has already blinked and plopped PROMETHEUS into JOHN CARTER’s former JUNE 8th date.

The move isn’t a bad one for the Ridley Scott project. There’s no direct competition – at least, not yet. The closest is the MAY 25th release of MEN IN BLACK III, but that shouldn’t pose a problem by the time the 8th rolls around.

So mark your calendars accordingly, kiddies. Ridley Scott’s PROMETHEUS – whatever it is – invades on JUNE 8, 2012.
