Another day, another British TV show being remade by the US. This time it’s a paranormal detective series “Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)” , which centered on Hopkirk, who is murdered while investigating a case and returns as a ghost, only visible to his ex-partner Randall. The two continue to work together and fight crime.
The Americanized version will be penned by writers Jane Espenson and Drew Z. Greenberg. They collaborated on Syfy’s “Battlestar Galactica” prequel “Caprica”, and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” before that. Espenson also worked on “Galactica” and “Dollhouse”, while Greenberg was once a writer/producer on “Dexter”.
Syfy has noticeably moved away from the dark and serious tone of shows like “Battlestar” and “Caprica” in favor of more lightweight fare, ala “Warehouse 13” and the upcoming “Being Human” (also a remake). I assume “Randall and Hopkirk” is more in line with the latter…
