Will Liam Neeson, Hugh Jackman and Ron Perlman climb the Moutains of Madness?

Back in September, we heard the rumor that Tom Cruise and James McAvoy were the two leading contenders to star in Guillermo del Toro’s AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS, the 3D adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s book being produced by James Cameron. Evidently del Toro likes Cruise for the lead role, while Universal wants the younger McAvoy… Now, five months later, we’re still no closer to having a man for the job.

Jumping off from an article over at Deadline claiming that Cruise is “attached” to MADNESS, the Playlist evidently checked with the actor’s reps about the report. Of course, they denied that’s officially on board. So nothing new there.

More interestingly, Playlist has unveiled the names of a couple other actors who are apparently being looked at for MADNESS: Liam Neeson, Ron Perlman and Hugh Jackman. The site claims that “offers” are out to the three men. What comes of that remains to be seen; it’s also unsure if these guys are all vying for the same role, or if an all-star ensemble is being looked at.

One thing is for certain – with all these names popping up, it’s obvious that this isn’t going to be just another B-movie. Universal aims to build a mammoth, A-list production out of this MADNESS.
